June 19th, 2008

Here it is… the final design. Here is the wrong design on the right color.

Sunday Recap

June 9th, 2008

Here are all the things you missed today:

Communion.

KDY -in the AM, 2 Corinthians 5:16-17; We must regard others as fellow image bearers who like us, will stand before the judgment seat of God. Also, we must look at ourselves in a different way, knowing that the old self is dead and the new is here. In the evening - Obadiah.

Sunday School: cool Sam’s Club snacks and the High Schoolers stole Michael.

Kiln Trip Meeting: We have 23 going with us and Little Amy doesn’t like Serve It Up and Mrs. D doesn’t like to bowl.

Wednesday… the last youth group of the year…

June 6th, 2008

There was much sobbing and blubbering as we all realized we wouldn’t see each other again until next week on the 11th when we have our first Summer Service Night. Seriously though, we did say goodbye to Emily, who is moving up north this week. Emails were exchanged and we’ll miss her.

We started the night out with announcements:

  1. Summer service night next week, meeting at the church at 6:30pm. We’ll have dinner together and clean up after Christianity Explored.
  2. Please vote for your favorite shirt design.

Then we went to Tasty Twist and got really, really messy. We pontificated about how the roof molding got so beat up.

Aaron and I hung out with the small d.i.g. and we finished up Case for a Creator. Big d.i.g. finished up Romans.

Sunday recap

June 3rd, 2008

Here is what you missed if you weren’t there:

  1. KDY -2 Corinthians 5:11-15; Paul’s motivation for ministry and ours: 1. the fear of the Lord, 2. the Love of Christ. Evening = Amos (admit it, you’ve always wondered what that book was about)
  2. big d.i.g. - presentations, presentations, presentations. If you didn’t know, the culmination of this year’s awesome church history series was a 5 minute presentation by each person in the class. They were assigned to research and share about a benefit Christianity has been to different aspects of society at large. Everyone did incredible, and despite rumors to the contrary, no one’s life was ruined for having to teach the rest of us for 5 minutes. Amy did something that I can’t remember, Chesna did human rights, Logan did literature (big surprise there) and we learned that Kevin not only can talk, he can talk pretty well and knowledgeably. He did education.
  3. small d.i.g. - Mrs. L, which means donuts.
  4. Giant Sunday School Picnic which only two d.i.g. kids attended (because I had the car keys). Lots of great food, games and fellowship. Deysi made balloon animals and 80 people showed up. Be there next year, squares.

Sunday recap…

May 27th, 2008

Ben Falconer preached; 1 Kings 13 - God demands our obedience. Someone else preached at night.

Big d.i.g. learned about the fall of the Berlin wall; Presentations are due next week! Little d.i.g. had a small group with Mrs. Cogan.

Nifty new features!

May 23rd, 2008

You can now look at a calendar of upcoming events; just click the What’s Going On? link on the side there, or look at the upcoming events list of links at the far right. You can click those individual links and find out about what we’re doing and where, etc.

Sunday recaps

May 20th, 2008

KDY on fire lately; 2 Corinthians 5:6-10 (listen) and Joel (listen). Repent and believe because all of our deeds will be laid bare in the final judgment. As you stand there, you’ll have nothing to save you unless you have Christ.

Big d.i.g. talked about women in the history of the church, and Mrs. Hageman was awesome. She told us about Harriet Beecher Stowe, Joni Erickson Tada and others, but even better we looked at women in the life of Christ.

Little d.i.g. did a little skit, doing different parts from the chapter they read in Matthew; and had to explain what they thought the Apostles would have done in different situations.

Lots of new faces this week! We love visitors.

Caspian (and Susan)…

May 20th, 2008

Well, they kissed and Dave was the only one who boo’ed. So lame. Here is a picture from the movie:

Prince Caspian with the kids

We had 70 go with us, and no emergencies… pizza and fun, beforehand. Here is little Amy and her nemesis friend:

Pizza Party

Plus, here is a bonus picture of the dwarves (the one on the right played by the same actor who played Reepicheep in the old BBC version and Wicket in Return of the Jedi. Oh and Willow):

Dwarves, not Dwarfs

Oh, P.S. the other one is the guy from Elf.

Amy update

May 20th, 2008

A quick update: Amy and Jessica arrived safely at Rochester last night. Amy didn’t feel well, fatigued from the trip. She used a wheelchair at times between flights.

They are staying at the Mennonite guest house in Rochester. While we talked last night, Jessica said that she could smell the cinnamon rolls that the hostess was cooking for the next morning’s breakfast!”

and later:

“Amy called this afternoon to report in after this first day at Mayo. She saw two specialist, had 10 viles of blood drawn, EKG and one other test. Tomorrow she is scheduled for an MRI (4 hours in duration) and another test that I can’t begin to explain. In preparation for tomorrow’s tests, she can sleep only a maximum of 4 hours tonight.”

Praying for Big Amy

May 19th, 2008

Here is an email I got this morning from Amy’s Dad:

Hello,

Most of you know that Amy has not been well for almost 2 years. Today she and Jessica are flying to Mayo Clinic. They are scheduled to arrive there tonight and the first visit starts tomorrow morning at 6:45.

Please pray that the doctors would make a definitive diagnosis and develop an effective treatment plan.

We really would appreciate it if you could pray. We’re convinced of God’s goodness to us and are asking him to continue to work in Amy’s life.

Thanks

So let’s be sure to pray this week, they’ll be home one the 25th.
